Hotel Bergwelt Grindelwald - E, Grindelwald

LOCATION/HISTORY

The charming “Bergwelt Grindelwald” resort is situated in Grindelwald, in the Bernese Oberland, right next to the valley station of the Firstbahn gondola. HRS Investment AG has acquired and, since 2013, continuously developed the mountain pasture with a plot area of approx. 17000 m2. Over several construction stages, a total of twelve new buildings (five multi-family buildings and seven individual chalets) were built. To round off the offer, a fourstar hotel was planned in the centre of the complex. With the new construction of the Small Luxury Hotel “Bergwelt Grindelwald” described here, HRS Real Estate AG has successfully completed the last stage of the project. The new four-star hotel opened in June 2021 and will be operated under the Swiss Design Hotel brand.

CONCEPT/ARCHITECTURE

As across the entire resort, the new hotel combines the traditional architecture of the area with a luxurious chalet style. The design hotel comprises a total of 90 rooms. The categories available are Essential, Superior and Luxury, each with 30 m2 of space, as well as suites of up to 48 m2. Guests will feel welcome thanks to the cosy Swiss wood, and unique furnishings. These include box-spring beds, rain showers, individual spacious balconies, high-speed Wi-Fi, smart TVs and sound systems, and individual air-conditioning controls.

At the “BG's Grill” restaurant, award-winning chef Marcus G. Lindner creates urban alpine cuisine. The “Seven Spirits Bar”, an exquisite lounge with a selection of 500 cigars, and “The Lobby” tea bar impressively round off the culinary offerings.

In the spacious “Fire&Ice” spa, guests can recharge their batteries. The 800 m2 wellness area includes five saunas, a steam bath (nonnude), footbaths, an ice fountain, heated pools with panoramic terraces and “Mystic Atrium Garden”, three treatment rooms and a relaxation area. Deep blue water reflects the power of the glaciers, fire and hay saunas heat up to over 80 degrees, and cool stones under your feet along with the scent of fragrant herbs bring the mysticism of the mountain world that bit closer in the atrium. Exercise is the order of the day in the “Uphill Only” fitness centre with personal trainers and the daily “move&explore” programme.

Residences can also be booked in adjacent chalets within the resort, accommodating up to eight people, some with their own sauna and others with exclusive access to the “Fire&Ice” spa, but always with their own balcony and views of the area›s iconic mountains. With its rich, diverse offer, this modern design hotel makes an important contribution to tourism in Grindelwald.

The hotel extends over two buildings (D and G), connected on the first floor by a covered corridor. The buildings consist of a conventional supporting structure made of concrete and a roof made of wood. The dark wooden chalet-style façade fits in perfectly with the neighbouring buildings, while large windows and modern details add an up-to-date touch to the rustic building.

Native plants and staging with lighting and a fog system characterise the surrounding design. The four-star hotel is accessed via the underground parking garages of the “Bergwelt Grindelwald” resort. The underground garages are connected via a tunnel.

SPECIAL FEATURES

A prototype was developed and implemented for the Small Luxury Hotel “Bergwelt Grindelwald”. HRS Real Estate AG was responsible for all development services with planning and building construction, including furnishing and decoration.

ENERGY CONCEPT/SUSTAINABILITY

The heating energy for the entire resort comes from the Holzwärme Grindelwald (HWG) district heat station. Local carbon-neutral, thermal energy is provided using wood chips, sawmill waste and old wood.
